I’ve always been someone who enjoys having fun and being creative when I am learning new concepts. In photography and videography, I think that I learn the most when I do creative edits and try new things. These are two specific examples in photography where I applied tools to learn new techniques, or trying to solve a technical mistake I made early in my photography journey.
My favourite creative edit
My favourite experience with a creative edit was the following photo, which I took around campus during the first semester of my program. We were learning how to use Lightroom Classic to do some edits of our photos and organize them. We learned the different effects available in Lightroom, and to see what they did, I was going to the extreme of all the effects. This permitted me to see each effect, and by doing that, it created this image. I thought that it was interesting and, in a way, it looked a bit haunted.

Making the best out of a mistake in photos
Another of my assignments I did in my photography classes was an assignment our prof called “Choose your own adventure.” The purpose of this assignment was to do a photoshoot to create multiple photographs all part of one series of our choosing. For this one, I had an idea of doing what I would call a “Taylor Swift-inspired photoshoot”. I wanted to recreate stills from one of her music videos. With help from my friends, I organized a photoshoot, and off we went. Unfortunately, most of the photos ended up being out of focus. However, I took this problem, and I decided to practice my creative edits, trying to make it seem more in focus. In the end, I was able to get a few shots that I am quite proud of, and overall, it was a good learning experience. I was able to learn and adapt my style, all while making sure all of my photos were in focus for future projects.

These are just a few examples of how I can learn new concepts and have fun creating something different. By using the tools at my disposal, I was able to learn and create something new and unique, or even learn from my mistakes, like in the “Choose your own adventure” assignment. Although I mostly just talked about photography for this one, it can also be applied to videography.
